Give Councils Say on Cash Boosts to Local Schools
Local Conservative candidate Graham Robb and Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague yesterday visited Hurworth School Maths and Computer College. They met with the school's chief executive Eamonn Farrar, and then took questions from a group of students. The school has enjoyed great success in recent years attaining a 90 per cent pass rate for A*-C GCSE, although has been disappointed in not being able to secure funds for improvments and investments in new buildings.
Following the visit Graham Robb said:
'If I am elected one of the first things I will do is try to change Government policy on how school funding is decided - it should be left to local authorities and schools to decide how to best use capital funds. We should be investing in success for the benefit of future generations.
